Das Race across the alps mit Start und Ziel in Nauders ist wohl "Die härteste Eintagesprüfung der Welt, die man sich auf einem Rennrad vorstellen kann." - wie vom Veranstalter auf den Punkt treffend formuliert. 14.000 Höhenmeter auf 540 km bedeuten eine Herausforderung der Extra Klasse und führen durch Italien, Schweiz und Österreich.RATA ist ein Rennen, welches man mit keinem anderen vergleichen kann. Die traumhafte Landschaft der kompromisslosen Berge steht im krassen Gegensatz zu den Menschen, welche die Stille der Natur durchkreuzen.
Hannes hat stark begonnen und stark fortgesetzt. Das Stilfserjoch hat er bei bester Laune geschafft, um dann den Gavia Pass zu durchradeln. Die Kraft wurde mobilisiert und es schien für uns als Betreuer, als ob er sich auf den Mortirolo direkt freuen würde. Es lag eine Euphorie in der Luft, die wohl nur ein Extremsportler nach vollziehen kann.
Es sollte dieses Jahr der Mortirolo sein Lehrmeister werden.
Den Pass erreichte Hannes mit guter Kondition und war bereits auf dem Weg runter. Vor ihm lag der leichtere Streckenteil, genau richtig für die Nacht. Dann passierte der Sturz. Es ist nicht genau klar, was Hannes unter den Reifen kam. Dafür ging alles zu schnell. Das Rennen mussten wir abbrechen, da bei einer Gehirnerschütterung eine Fortsetzung ausgeschlossen ist. Die blutige Nase und die aufgeschlagenen Zähne waren dabei halb so schlimm. Hannes liebt die RATA Strecke mehr als je zuvor. Wir kommen wieder.

Hannes started strongly and continued strongly. He did the Stelvio Pass in the best of moods and then cycled through the Gavia Pass. The strength was mobilized and it seemed to us as caregivers that he was looking forward to the Mortirolo. There was euphoria in the air that only an extreme athlete can understand.
Mortirolo has to be the teacher this year.
Hannes reached the pass in good shape and was already on the way down. The easier part of the route lay in front of him, just right for the night. Then the fall happened. It is not exactly clear what Hannes got under the tires. Everything went too quickly for that. We had to stop the race because a concussion is impossible to continue. The bloody nose and the broken teeth were half as bad. Hannes loves the RATA route more than ever. We will be back.
